In the fall of 2006, Northwest Colorado BOCES, in collaboration with the Hayden, South Routt, and Steamboat Springs school districts, began offering an alternative educational opportunity to high school students in greater Routt County. Yampa Valley School replaced the alternative programs that previously existed in those districts.
Any Routt County high school student is eligible to attend; however, the school’s focus is on providing educational opportunities for those that don’t feel they excel in a traditional setting. Due to enrollment limitations, prospective students are required to apply for admission. We accept applications throughout the year. The mission of the Yampa Valley School is to provide a healthy, respectful and joyful environment; which promotes involvement and cooperation among students and staff in order to develop positive attitudes towards learning and its relevance, and to achieve individual goals.
